Our Commitment to ESG

At MTTSL, we recognise the growing importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices, especially within the shipping and logistics industry. In 2023, we introduced our Sustainability Policy with the aim of creating long-term value for our stakeholders while supporting the global sustainable development agenda. This policy is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and reflects our commitment to responsible and forward-looking business practices.

Environmental

Emissions management

Emissions mainly come from vessel and vehicle fuel use.

Some vessels are equipped with EGCS scrubbers to reduce pollutants.

The rest operate on MGO and VLSFO for lower sulphur emissions.

All vessels under the CII framework undergo annual compliance assessments.

We improve emissions performance through energy efficiency, technology upgrades, and low-carbon practices.

Energy management

Investing in energy-efficient vessels.

Introducing ammonia refrigerant and solar panels at our IFFs.

All container vessels are EEXI-compliant.

Two new chemical tankers use dual-fuel methanol engines for greener operations.

Water and waste management

We track water use and discharge on all vessels.

We work to reduce waste and effluents from operations.

All vessels, except two older units, have ballast water treatment systems.

Social

Health and safety

Committed to continuously improving health and safety practices.

Measures in place to protect employees and contractors.

Focused on preventing incidents, accidents and workplace injuries.

Working to mitigate operational health and safety risks.

Aligned with the Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seafarers (UK MCA).

Human rights and labour standards

We uphold and protect the rights of everyone involved in our operations.

Our Supplier Code of Conduct sets clear expectations for all suppliers.

Covers key areas such as health and safety, human rights, and environmental protection.

Employee management and training

We prioritise employee growth, engagement and wellbeing.

We support continuous learning and skills development.

Employees are encouraged to drive their own career progression.

We offer flexibility, training, growth opportunities and rewards.

Knowledge sharing is promoted across all departments.

Diversity and equal opportunity

Crew and ship management teams are regularly trained on health and safety policies.

We have an equality and diversity policy to foster a respectful and inclusive workplace.

48% of employees in landside (non-vessel) functions are female.

21% of employees in vessel-related operations are female.

32% of managerial positions and above are held by women.

Planning to introduce training programmes to strengthen diversity and equality standards.

Diversity goals will be incorporated into future KPIs.

Community investment

Supporting social welfare and community development through various initiatives.

Projects include food banks, blood drives, mental health webinars and beach clean-ups.

Collaborating with schools nationwide through classroom containers, e-learning support, educational materials and infrastructure repairs.

Conducted computer donation drives for schools and charities.

Since 2021, we have completed 54 CSR programmes, contributing RM2.5 million.

Governance

Whistle Blowing

Our Whistleblowing Policy provides a safe and confidential channel for reporting misconduct or unethical behaviour.

ABC

We maintain a strict Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) Policy to ensure ethical and transparent business conduct.

All employees and partners are expected to comply with zero-tolerance standards on bribery, corruption and improper practices.
