Tugs & Barges
In 2012, MTTSL expanded into Indonesia, marking a key milestone in our regional growth. Through our subsidiary, Sea Navigator, we began providing container liner shipping services using chartered tugs and barges to facilitate cargo movements between Peninsular Malaysia and riverine ports in Sumatera, Indonesia. Operations initially commenced with a single tug-and-barge set servicing the route between Port of Tanjung Pelepas and Port of Perawang, Sumatera.
Over the years, we have progressively expanded our port coverage in Sumatera. As at the Latest Practicable Date, we operate four sets of chartered tugs and barges, as well as one dedicated vessel, connecting major regional hub ports—including Port Klang (Westports and Northport), Port of Tanjung Pelepas, and the Port of Singapore—to six riverine ports in Sumatera, Indonesia.
Our tug-and-barge services are operated through time charter arrangements with third-party owners, complemented by our custom-built containerised vessels dedicated to riverine feeder operations. Each service is operated using a paired tug and barge configuration, with flexible deployment that allows tugs to be matched with barges according to operational capacity requirements.
